Translation from Ohno Discovery@tumblr

2014.11.14 AD - Of whistling, thumping and swivelling.

[BGM ‘Take Off!’ & ‘Zero-G’]

Good morning. This is Arashi’s Ohno Satoshi.
Every Friday I respond to the messages received on this show.

First up is one from Maika of Tochigi.
"Satoshi-kun, good morning. The other day, on Arashi ni Shiyagare, Satoshi-kun said that there are days where you can whistle and days where you can’t. Which is it today? Please let us hear it!"

OK. Ahem.

(attempts to whistle) Here it comes!

(whistles) Here it comes, here it comes!

So it finally happened!

Next, one from Aya-san.
"Oh-chan, good morning. I’ve got a little something to consult you on. I totally have no physical strength at all. I can’t even do one push-up. On that note, I plan to go to the upcoming Arashi concert, but I’m worried I don’t have the strength to withstand 3 hours. I don’t have confidence that I can wave a penlight for 3 hours. But you’d want people to participate by dancing hard and vigorously waving their penlights, right? So please tell me an easy way to build up my stamina."

Man, when it’s time to rest, just rest! Sure enough, continuing for 3 hours is amazing. Man, I really think that’s amazing. I mean, when we dance, we’re able to take breaks and rest in between. But the audience is just waving the whole time. Man, that’s… Well, that’s…

Just once, if you have an Arashi DVD, you can put that on while waving. If you get tired, switch hands. So you can try for yourself for 3 hours. Yeah. Then repeat it; use your muscles.

So firstly, instead of doing push-ups, you can actually use a penlight for 3 hours. If you have an Arashi concert DVD, just try it with the same conditions.

It’s just that, doing that for 3 hours at home is kinda tiresome… (laughs)

Not only that, you’ll use up your arm strength. Careful your penlight doesn’t go flying.

But you don’t have to particularly force yourself. It’s fine if you don’t wave continuously the whole time, really. If you want to rest, please rest! Really. Yeah.

Well, but it has come, hasn’t it? Congratulations! I don’t know how or when, but let’s meet in the near future!

Next, from Mizuki-san.
"Ohno-kun, good morning. I laughed at your anecdote where you dreamt you had supernatural powers. In the morning when you woke up and found you didn’t have powers, that must have been disappointing, huh? On that note, for Ohno-kun who will turn 34 this year, have you ever heard of the term ‘kabe-don’[1]? I know it’s an impossible request, but could you do a ‘kabe-don’ on radio? I’d like you to say something as well. As long as Ohno-kun were to say something, I’d be happy no matter what it was. “

I know about ‘kabe-don’. It’s the one that happens in manga, right? Where they thump the wall. Just as it sounds.

Right, here goes.

(thump) Good morning.

No good? (laughs) What would you do if that happened every time?

(thump) Goodbye. (laughs)

(thump) What did you eat today?

I’m just not cut out for this sort of thing. Being an actor in a love scene, that’s really not me.

"It’s because… I love you."

Man, that’s no good. Including that bit from 'From the Northern Country'. It’s hopeless.

Right, next, one from Yuna-chan-Nanana-san, age 15.
"The video clip for Zero-G has been released, right? The hip swivelling in the chorus part is totally sexy. On that note, for the concert and so on, are there any hip moves? What sort of mood do you shake your hips with? Isn’t it embarrassing? Sorry for such weird questions so early in the morning."

Nah, hip swivelling is just a part of dance. Mm. Well, it’s kinda… For Arashi - for old men in our 30s, how do we look when shaking our hips? Do we look cute? (laughs)

Often, the chorus is said to be catchy, with a MatsuJun-esque feel. So it’s quite, well, it’d be good if it appeared cute. That’s what I thought.

And then… Well, that’s how it turned out. (laughs)

Essentially, if women were to do it, it’d be sexy or cute. Essentially. So there are times where I just wondered how it’d look if men were to do it. So well, there are all sorts of patterns to it. Well, that’s how it settled into it.

So something like that.

Ah, today’s concert… Today is the Fukuoka performance? Man, there sure must be a big commotion, huh? With last-minute changes and stuff. Yeah, probably today will be straight through with rehearsals, right? Until the early afternoon. So today will be the second performance, I guess? Probably. With the rehearsal and the actual performance. We’ll be exhausted when it’s over.

Good luck, Satoshi! Go into the distant future!

And so with that, the weekly Friday messages have been answered. I’ll be awaiting your mail. The address is I’ll be waiting for you to send me lots of messages.

See you next week; this was Ohno Satoshi!
