Translation from Ohno Discovery @tumblr

2014.11.20 AD - Can’t hide that crimson.

Good morning. This is Arashi’s Ohno Satoshi.
Here’s today’s thought of the day; come on!

"Even if you plant crimson in a garden, you can’t hide it."[1]

[BGM ‘Zero-G’]

That’s kinda great. Sounds cool. I have no idea what it means though.(laughs)

The word ‘garden’ is written with the characters ‘園’ from ‘稚園’ (kindergarten) and ‘生’ from ‘生きる生まれる’ (to live, to be born). This means that excellence will stand out no matter where it is. ‘Crimson’ refers to the safflower. This comes from the fact that the safflower tends to thrive in parts of the garden which are thickly overgrown, and maintains a conspicuous presence despite it.

This was sent in by listener Akino-san. The message reads:
"What’s an item that you bought on impulse because it caught your eye lately?"

Ahh… Impulse buying, huh? Stuff I just fell deeply in love with, huh?

Well, it’s been ages but I went to a fishing equipment shop the other day. Since I didn’t have any long boots. I figured I’d buy some new ones. So I went to buy boots and then, like, I happened to see some lures. And then I bought some.

And I figured, 'Maybe I should buy some reels and stuff…' (laughs) I have plenty, but I just wanted them. That’s impulsive buying, right?

Like, occasionally they have those reels displayed in glass cases? With the price written there. I thought, 'Oh, that's great!' It was like 40,000 yen. When I thought, '40k, huh?' but I kinda still wanted it. It had an incredibly good design, too. It was like, red and… gold? It had an incredibly stylish look to it.'I wonder what line colour would look good on that?' I even fantasized up to that point about it.

'Man, I really want it!’ I thought. It was for fishing seabass? I wanted lures for those. And then without bothering to read the details - the design was great! - I called the shopkeeper over.

"Excuse me."

"Um, the red one…"

"Ah, that one?"

"Is that for seabass?"
 I said something like that.

"No, it’s not." (laughs) “It’s for squid.”

"It’s for squid. Well, it wouldn’t be impossible to catch seabass with it, though."

"Ah, is that so? Ah, I see. Thank you very much."
And with that I turned tail and headed home.

(laughs) It was for squid. Yeah, though it wouldn’t have been impossible to catch seabass with it. Well, it was a reel built especially for squid, though. Yeah. I still haven’t bought a lure for squid yet. That’s right. Well, I’ll report to you if I buy it next time.

Well, I didn’t buy it in the end. Sorry about that! (laughs)

That’s all; this was Ohno Satoshi!
