2015.01.29 AD - Stay the same.

Good morning. This is Arashi’s Ohno Satoshi.
Here’s today’s thought of the day; come on!

"There’s this well-known story in rakugo that the people who don’t change are the ones who are progressing. The ones who really don’t change at all are the ones that are told that they’d blow it.”[1]

Ohh. I see. This is a quote by Japanese director Ishii Mamoru-san. This was sent in by listener Nyanyanda-san.
"When I heard of this quote, I thought of my close friend from elementary school. That person went on to a different middle school from me, but she was always a serious and cheerful kid. This year we happened to catch up again after so long. Everything was unchanged, like it was before. But one thing I heard was that once she entered middle school, she had excellent results, got into the best class and studied really hard. She really continued keeping up her efforts. 'She hasn't changed,' I thought. Satoshi-kun, are there any people that come to mind whom you think haven’t changed at all since long ago?”

I see. There’s a senior whom I think hasn’t changed at all. Higashiyama-san. Ah, he really hasn’t changed. I think it’s amazing. And he does it effortlessly.

Seriously, I mean, as for me properly meeting Higashiyama-san, I back-danced for him. The first time I properly started having contact with him was probably when I was in Kyoto. Higashiyama-san was coming as a guest to the stageplay in Kyoto. So I back-danced for him.

That was the first time I really saw Higashiyama-san. Since then, he hasn’t changed a bit. His muscles, his face - all of it. I mean, well, he said that now’s the time he’s working his hardest. So not only is he still doing training, but also naturally, with all his experience up until now, he’s really in complete mastery of his own body.

And then the most amazing one is Matchy-san. At the end of the year, during FNS, we got to work together for a while. Naturally, he’s got great style. It’s something that can’t really be conveyed through TV. When you see it in person, you’ll know what I mean. It’s incredibly great. Yeah.

Naturally, with that sort of sempai, they never change.

It’s not looking good for me! I mean, I’m me, so it can’t be helped. (laughs)

Maintaining that level of style is amazing. Will I be able to keep that up when I’m past 40? When I see it live, I really think that. It’s a little different from seeing it on TV, so you can’t really tell. You can see it. When you see it in person. Constantly. He’s even more smooth than you’d imagine. Yeah.

I can assuredly say… Let’s aim for that! I’ll aim for it. Unchanging Satoshi!

That’s all; this was Ohno Satoshi!
