Translation to English by Ohno Discovery

2015.01.22 AD - Friends you can call at 4AM.

Good morning. This is Arashi’s Ohno Satoshi.
Here’s today’s thought of the day; come on!

"It’s the friends you can call up at 4AM that matter."[1]

Ohh. That’s an incredible quote. This is by German actress Marlene Dietrich-san.

This was sent in by listener Mitsuru-san. The message reads:
"Good morning. I listen to your show every morning without fail. Ohno-kun, have you ever called friends or Arashi members or your juniors or seniors in the middle of the night before? Conversely, have you ever been called like that?"

Ohh, I see. Firstly, I don’t think I’ve ever been called like that. As for why that is, at 4AM in the morning, I’d definitely be sound asleep.

Well, amongst those who listen to my radio show… That’s early in the morning. It’s incredible.

Well, basically for me, it seemed like I had that kind of image at first. I’ve never been called by a junior but my seniors… Like in the past, TOKIO’s Matsuoka-kun and all. It wouldn’t be in the middle of the night but he’d just call and be like, "Whatcha doing?"

"I’m at home."

"Then come on over."

"Nah, I’m good for today,"
 I’d say.

Then because I refused, conversely, he wouldn’t call me anymore. That’s the impression he got of me, so he stopped calling. Now nobody does.(laughs)

But once, Matsu-nii called and said that this time that I really had to come. So I’ve often mentioned this but it was in the past, when he went to Okinawa, he’d caught a tuna and sent it over just like that. So Matsu-nii was like, "I’ve caught a tuna so I’m sending (a photo) over."

"Ahh, really? Amazing! Then don’t cut it up before you send it."
I wanted to see what it looked like, right? Since it was huge. And then since I wanted to see it just as it was, he sent it over just like that.

And then he sent a photo of it all cut up and prepared. "You said to cut it up, right? It was hard work!" So there was a photo like that. "But it was huge, right?"

That night… I think it was about 2AM? Yeah, I remember now. At 2AM, at Matsu-nii’s favourite place - he didn’t eat it there, but probably in order to distribute it to the other regulars, he’d cut it up and brought it along.

As for me, at 2AM I was just on the verge of sleep when Matsu-nii’s phone call came.

"What’s up?"

"What are you doing? Don’t sleep, come over here, you idiot! Come eat the tuna I prepared."

So I had no excuse but to go and eat it. So naturally, I went. It was incredibly tasty. Yeah, so that’s happened. I wonder who’ll invite me out next? Seriously.

Like, initiating the invitation myself is hard! To juniors and all. Naturally, I do want to invite my juniors.

Actually, I do want to invite my juniors out. So well, for those juniors where I know your contact addresses, how would you like it if I invited you out? I’m going to insistently invite you. That’s the kind of senior I am. Sorry about that!

That’s all; this was Ohno Satoshi!
