2015.01.12 AD - If you’re thinking anyway, think big.

Good morning. This is Arashi’s Ohno Satoshi.
Here’s today’s thought of the day; come on!
"As long as you’re going to be thinking anyway, think big."[1]

[BGM ‘Smile Again’]

This is a quote by American businessman Donald Trump-san. Translated into Japanese, that means, ‘In any case, if you’re going to be thinking anything, think of big things’. My English…

It’s better to have big dreams, isn’t it? No matter what it is. Mm. It’s fine to just say it. You’ll gradually get closer to it. Before you know it, you’ll have accomplished your goal. So there’s that.

So it’s the Coming of Age Day. Is it a holiday for the public? Yeah… There’s a message that reached us. Um, from Karin-san.

"Good morning. I’m going to be celebrating 12th January, the Coming of Age Day. My birthday is 21st January so I’ll actually be 19 at the time of the ceremony, but in terms of feelings, when I appear in the ceremony, I’ll feel like I’ve become an adult." (Mm.) “When Ohno-san turned 20, what did Ohno-san think?”

That’s right! When I was 20, I didn’t really think about anything. At that time, I was with V6’s Okadacchi and TOKIO’s leader Joshima, so the three of us Johnnys appeared at the Coming of Age ceremony.

So Joshima-kun was 30 years old, I guess? Joshima-kun went as the attendant. So it was just Okadacchi and I, back then.

Man, when I was 20, I didn’t have a suit. Since I was going to appear on TV, I went to a menswear store with my mum on a bicycle. And then, (laughs)we bought one.

It was like, "What colour necktie would be best?"

"Eh? One that doesn’t stand out too much, I guess?"

Mm. But I was going to be on TV, so it should’ve been eye-catching, that’s what I think now. It was interesting. Well, thinking of it now.

And then what was it? It’s fashionable, right? To have the colour of your necktie play a part. Well, in this case, it’s best to have one point stand out, right? Or something. Mm.

So we bought it and then I went. And then Okadacchi was like, he’d borrowed a suit from the costume department. 'What!? (laughs) So I could’ve done that!’ Mm.

But the necktie was kinda silver and I thought that was pretty fashionable. That’s what I remember. (laughs)

Mm. So I went to buy one. How nostalgic. Isn’t that right? When I was 20 years old.

Well, but when you’re in your 20s, it’s best to do all sorts of things. Endure the tough times without getting discouraged. (laughs) That didn’t sound very convincing just now, did it? (laughs)

It’s better to study English! I just thought of that just now. When I was in my 20s, I often said that I’d study English. Right? So as for that, I’m now 34, right? And then well, it’s been more than 10 years. If I’d really studied, I’d be fluent by now!

Well, so I’ll start from now. Ahh, I quit! (laughs) I never said that! But actually if I’d been secretly doing it, all of a sudden - like today’s thought of the day, wouldn’t it have been cool if I’d read it all fluently?

So to all of you turning 20 attending the Coming of Age ceremony, go conquer English! The power of English. In 5 years, you’d just be 25. I’d be nearly 40! (laughs)

It’s a battle! (laughs) Good luck!

That’s all; this was Ohno Satoshi!
