[RADIO] ARASHI DISCOVERY OF 05FEB15 WITH OHNO SATOSHI/ DEL 05FEB15 CON OHNO SATOSHI

Translation in English by Ohno Discovery@tumblr

2015.02.05 AD - Art is never finished.

Good morning. This is Arashi’s Ohno Satoshi.
Here’s today’s thought of the day; come on!

"Art is never finished, it is only abandoned."[1]

[BGM ‘Fuyu wo Dakishimete’]

This is a quote by the Italian artist and inventor, Leonardo da Vinci

This was sent in by listener Nadeshiko-san. The message reads:
"Now then, I was surprised. You’re drawing glasses? And taking the majority vote from your listeners? Ahahahaha Sato-chan, maybe you’re overthinking it, worrying too much - hasn’t it boiled down to that?"

Do you all remember? About 3 weeks ago I was taking submissions for this. There was an oil painting that had been completed to a certain degree - an oil painting I’d done. Should I keep painting? That was the question.

Almost exactly 2 years ago, I think? I’d done an oil painting on a huge canvas of a person’s face with glasses. The face had been split vertically and each half was in different colours. So only the glasses were in one colour, in red.

I kinda wanted to make the one red colour match the face with its split colours, but I couldn’t decide what to do.

To do it or not to do it? That was the question. So I was open to a majority vote from the listeners. For a week - it was a short voting period, but we got a ton of messages and I think I’ll read out a few.

First up is… for not changing anything, leaving it as it is, just red…

From Moe-Moe-san from Kanagawa:
"Despite having the same glasses, the expression is different, like it’s enjoying peeking out at different worlds."

That’s a good one. Here’s another from Niimi-san of Shibuya, Tokyo:
"Keeping both sides red would help to tie the left and right sides of the picture together, I think."

Man, you’re all saying some pretty good stuff there.

Right, so from those who think it’s better to change it. Kana-san:
"I asked an old lady who’s been doing oil paints for 20 years and she said that oil painting is all about adding layers on top."

Well, true. Oil paints are layered on. Man, I understand that, though.

Next, one from Midori of Yokohama:
"I want to see a painting which Ohno-kun is 100% satisfied with."

Well… I get that too. I understand.

And then here’s an interesting one. There are ‘Others’ as well:
"Probably all the Ohno fans in the whole country who are listening would be just generally offering opinions. But we can’t tell without having seen it!"

(laughs) That’s true, but don’t be so unsparing with me!

Man, right, so we’ve got a count of all the votes here. I’m going to announce it. Here goes.

(makes a drumroll noise)

Don’t draw: 332 votes
Draw: 180 votes

So with that, it means that I won’t draw anything else and leave it as it is!

(cheers and applause)

Man, I’m kinda flattered. That you all thought so seriously about it for me. I’ve got it. Man, I won’t add any more to that painting. Thank you very much, all of you!

That’s all; this was Ohno Satoshi!
